Attendance

Dear Crew,

For a long time, I thought that belonging meant that everyone got along as well as possible.

Today, I believe something different. A sense of belonging arises when many different kinds of people can sit around the same fire. The loud ones and the quiet ones. The brave ones and the cautious ones. The dreamers and the pragmatists. Those who tell stories. And those who simply listen.

For a long time, I thought my silence was a flaw. If I didn't say much at a party, I felt like I should be contributing more. Like I had to be more interesting, funnier, and more noticeable.

Today I know that genuine presence is one of the most precious gifts we can give to another person.

Sometimes it’s not the loudest voice that changes a room. It’s the person who ’s truly present . Who listens. Who smiles. Who saves a seat. Who says from the heart, “I’m glad you’re here.”

A crew isn't an exclusive club. It isn't made up of people who are all the same. It's made up of people who work together to make the journey possible.

Some make sounds. Some navigate. Some cook. Some repair things. Some sing. Some gaze at the stars. And some just sit there quietly for a moment, reminding us that we don't need to be anywhere else.

Everyone contributes something. Not always the same thing. Not at the same time. But each in her own way.

That's why there's no pressure to be extraordinary in our crew. You don't have to impress anyone. You don't have to prove yourself. You don't have to act like you're someone you're not.

I have only one wish: that together we can wider . Curious. Generous. Compassionate. That we move a little closer together whenever someone new joins us.

Because the fire doesn't get smaller when we share it. It gets bigger.

Maybe that’s our only crew rule. It’s not that we all think the same way. It’s not that we all have the same stories. It’s that together we protect a space where diversity is allowed to exist. A space where no one has to tone down their vitality just so others can feel comfortable.

So if you've ever wondered whether you're good enough to come along, the answer is yes.

Maybe you'll bring a tune. Maybe a pot of soup. Maybe a crazy idea. Maybe just your sincere presence.

Any of these are welcome.

Because every journey needs people to keep the fire burning. And sometimes, all it takes is one person who’s truly there.

With love and a quiet presence,
Jeannette
